I have, by nature, always been someone who feels compelled to nurture and take care of
others.  I imagine that being an identical twin intensified these proclivities.

After I graduated from Boston University in 1970 with a BA in Spanish, it was a fortuitous
cycle of events that gave me access to many extraordinary experiences on both sides of
the border. After I graduated in 1972 with a MSW, I worked in Los Angeles with children
and families – first as a medical social worker and later on as a psychiatric social worker.
Since I desired more clinical training, I was thrilled to be accepted into the first class at the
Graduate Center for Child Development and Psychotherapy in 1976. The program was
one of the first that offered psychoanalytic training to professionals with a master’s
degree or a PhD. Many years later,  I joined the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis
and received an additional doctorate in 2006.

After I married and began my family, I worked part-time in private practice and have done
so for more than thirty years. My favorite developmental time frame is young adulthood.
It is a period of hope and optimism as one searches for a profession, a relationship, and an
adult identity. When I learned that my fourth and fifth children were fraternal twin boys, it
intensified my research and thirst for twin related studies. Although I had always been
interested in twin issues as they related to my growing up as an identical twin, I never
dreamed that it would become my area of expertise, passion, and dedication. I am
committed to being the voice of healthy twinship in hopes of educating parents and
teachers and the community-at-large about what twins need to grow up as healthy
individuals.

People from all over the world contact me regarding their twins. I have spoken to moms
of twins in Johannesburg, Madrid, and Istanbul. I run groups for moms of twins in my
private practice and provide psychotherapeutic interventions regarding parenting issues
and twin-related problems. I am involved in parent education and consultation. I am
currently writing a book targeted at the maturing adult twin population who need
guidance and education about how their twinship has impacted their attachment history.
